Trellis Community Vegetable Gardening Forum

Sharing our knowledge of vegetable gardening in the Snoqualmie Valley area

Couldn't find a similar topic already open so thought I'd start a discussion......

Would you be interested in hosting a "show and tell" of your kitchen garden?  Nothing fancy.  Just block out an hour and whoever shows up gets the tour.  You could walk us around your veggie garden, berry patch, orchard or herb garden, or show us your greenhouse set-up and discuss your seeding/potting up activities, or walk us through a project you're working on and what you hope to accomplish.  This would enrich our monthly discussions and lets us see things in action, and be a great way for you to get some input/ideas/feedback.

If you're interested, post an "invite" in this thread.  Use the following format:

Day
Date
Start time - end time
Topic (tell us what your show and tell will be about)
Address/directions (if needed)

Visitors - reply to invite so host knows who's coming and how many, be prompt so the host can start/end on time, dress appropriately (rubber boots may be a good thing to put in your car), ask permission to take photos, and leave promptly unless invited to hang around afterwards.

A caution and an alternative:

Remember that this forum is totally public! I, personally wouldn't post my address and possibly expose my garden as a potential public grocery. As one deer in one night can ruin a new bush, it only takes one irresponsible person to make your garden-toil his meals.

I chuckled over Carol’s idea of garden visits as this is the way that Trellis started. There is definite interest among the membership for both spring and autumn visits (to see and discuss work going into a garden and then see and discuss the results). I will email the membership list and ask who is interested in (either or both) visiting or hosting their garden. I will then email the garden hosts with the email addresses of the interested member visitors. From then on, the hosts can coordinate the visits thru emails.

Trellis started when about 5 local vegetable gardener acquaintances toured each other’s gardens and learned so much from each other, that they voiced that gardeners should get together periodically. Ruthann, Hannah, and I started Trellis in Nov 09.
