Sharing our knowledge of vegetable gardening in the Snoqualmie Valley area

I'd be interested in learning how everyone else preserves their harvest - how people go about freezing, canning, storing squash, etc.  For example, we've had trouble storing squash in the past few years - they rot before we get to them.  We got close last year, but the freezing temps in our garage hastened their demise.  I'm also interested in whether others plant anything to last through the fall/winter.  We're pretty lazy about it - we don't have a cold frame or anything, but I would like to be able to extend the season at least a little.  I've yet to figure out exactly when to plant fall crops...seems like I'm too late every year.

I think this would be a good set of topics for July.

I second this as good discussion topic. Side note, I cut some of my winter squash in big chunks, and freeze it that way. We save that until the end of winter, when we've eaten the "fresh" ones. I've had good luck with Delicata and Hubbard.
