Sharing our knowledge of vegetable gardening in the Snoqualmie Valley area

I planted 2 varieties of beets 3/20, they are about 4 inches tall, have yellow seed leaves and are all bolting.

Does anyone have any ideas?   Can they be saved ( I hope...) or do I feed them to the chickens and start over?

I also have some spinach that is starting to look like it will bolt ?????

This is highly unusual, especially the beets seeming to bolt like that, beets don't usually bolt the same year they are planted.  The spinach as well should not be bolting.  What company of seeds did you use and what is the soil mix?  When did you notice this, was it after the last rain and cooler weather?  Not sure I can help but it makes me curious.

We have had problems with spinach bolting when it barely gets to harvest size. Our solution after a couple years of this---we now grow New Zealand spinach.

Hi Leola,
I talked to Ruthann about your bolting problems---could be your soil isn't rich enough for the beets and spinach.
Enrich the soil there (compost, manure, fertilizer) and replant.
