Onions are a lot more helpful than I remembered:
Alternating rows of carrots and onions might be a way to "confuse" both onion flies and carrot flies.
Beets, brassicas, lettuce and tomatoes seem to benefit from the strong odor of onions "hiding" them from pest insects.
Beans and peas seem to be the plants that do NOT like onions.
