Trellis Community Vegetable Gardening Forum

Sharing our knowledge of vegetable gardening in the Snoqualmie Valley area

The meeting started at 9:00 am with a brief and general discussion of the crops which gave
each of us the best success so far in 2019.

Lettuce, corn, radishes and orchards seem to be prospering.

David reported cucumber beetles have dinged some of his success.

Darien mentioned reading about efforts to attract and propagate beneficial predator insects by
planting and/or expanding hedgerows with favorable habitat.

There followed a brief discussion of Masons and Granges, a bit of history and recent
membership declines in our region.

Darien discussed potting her starts with a mix of half compost and half potting soil.

David agreed it is best NOT to compact the soil.

Darien watered our starts at the Learning Garden with a mixture fish meal and seaweed
fertilizer.

Alder trees are like beans in having nitrogen fixing bacterial nodules on their roots.
Hence, a plot of land with alders recently cleared from it might have enhanced nitrogen.

Rosemary tea from rosemary clippings. Look up fennel as well.

Darien has some Hungarian Heart tomato plants this year, at home and in the Learning Garden.

For our August meeting we plan to visit Darien's home garden.

For our September meeting we plan to visit Tacy's and Peter's home garden.

That pushes our Fall Harvest Meal to the October meeting.
