How to make wood fireproof, dry rot proof, and resistant to insects via old time ways:

 

Soak the wood in a concentrated solution of rock salt. No further details given.

 

Can also petrify wood by:

 

Mix equal parts of gem salt, rock alum, white vinegar, chalk, and Peebles’ powder. After the mixture becomes quiet, put into it any wood or porous substance and the latter becomes like stone.
